I've put together some of my best writing samples and plan to post them online. So far the ones I have done have received decent feedback. On the side I write fan fiction mostly for entertainment and improve my writing and keep my creative side working. But anyway here's a scene I recently came up with. It's part of a fan fic for V, the ABC remake of the 1980s series with the same name. Got ideas from some older posts I had on a Dog/Cat RPG site so I added them to the mix: Next to Los Angeles, New York was one of the top Metropolitan cities around. Known mostly for attractions such as Times Square, NYC did have a softer side, one of which was Central Park. For the most part, people avoided going into the park at night but not Anna. Marcus and other people she knew had cautioned her about it and she made a mental note to watch her back. So far, she hadn't encountered anyone or anything dangerous save for a homeless man; who at first seemed like he was following her for a different reason but was only interested in getting an autograph. Walking down the path she stopped and glanced at the statue of Balto. 'Humans certainly have a thing for dogs.' Anna thought. "Huh, man's best friend." she muttered. When she first came to New York, Anna wasn't all that good with animals but overtime had taken a liking to dogs. Taking one final look at the statue, she moved on. It was the middle of Fall in New York, the leaves on the trees had changed color and birds had began their long flight south, there was a full moon on this particular Friday night. As she walked further, Anna came across a group of moths near a gas lamp. She had thought about trying thought about trying to catch one but changed her mind. Who ever heard of a person eating a moth? but then again this was New York City. 2nd half of the excerpt. Normally, Anna wouldn't be caught in public without Marcus or Lisa close by but right now she just wanted to be alone. Athough hardly anyone bothered her when she was in her room or office on the ship, Central Park was one of the few places where she could really hear herself think. Right at the moment, she was a pretty decent mood. It wasn't long before she caught herself letting out a loud vocal cry that only a V like herself could make. If anyone nearby heard it, a person probably would've mistaken it for a coyote howling.'What's wrong with me?' Anna wondered, she hadn't made that noise in a long time. It was a typical cry most Visitors used to express happiness or lonliness depending on the tone. Moving away from the gas lamp, she stepped out into a more open spot in the path. 3rd part. The 'A' shaped charm that hung around her heck glistened in the moonlight. Someone had sent the necklace to Anna and sighed the card as 'From a friend' but she easily recognized Chad Decker's handwriting. Nonetheless, she did appreciate having someone think about her even if Anna and Chad were as different as night and day. Snapping out her thought, Anna quickly turned around at hearing a twig snap. Being a V, she had a sharp sense of smell and hearing, almost like those of a dog. "Who's there?!" she asked. At hearing the sounds of footsteps and leaves rustling; Anna growled. The hair on the back of her head stood on end and her claws were now exposed. Whatever or whoever it was, Anna made sure she was ready to defend herself if need be. About five minutes later she realized the figure approaching her was Chad Decker! Anna quickly relaxed and retracted her claws before Chad could notice. "Ohh, it's only you." she said. 4th part "Well, who were you expecting... Eddie Murphy?" Chad joked. "Very funny," Anna replied sarcastically. "You ok? 'cause you look like you were about to go postal on somebody." Chad pointed out. "You startled me that's all. But I'm no chicken." siad Anna. "I can tell... but what are you doing here? didn't anybody warn you about coming to this place at night?" Chad asked. Anna nodded, "I needed a break so I came here." she explained. "I understand, I sometimes have to step outside myself." Chad admitted. Anna pulled the front of her jacket closer to her body. There was a light breeze blowing and she was getting somewhat cold. Chad scratched the back of his neck before he spoke. "Look... um... I was just heading home, I can give you a lift back to the ship, it's on the way." "All right," said Anna. Chad grinned, " In that case, we better get going." and with that he started to walk ahead of Anna.... Read More »
